Appointment Election
Appointment to fill the vacancy created by the failure of James W. Mandeville to take the office of State Controller following his appointment as U.S. Surveyor General. Reappointment made by Governor John B. Weller. The State Senate reconfirmed, but a legal challenge by George W. Whitman prevented Meloney from taking office until October 12th.
