- NATURAL DISASTER (AVALANCHE): The deadliest avalanche in California history killed seven at Alpine Meadows (now part of Palisades Tahoe) on March 31, 1982. The avalanche occurred within the districts of State Senator Ray E. Johnson and Assemblyman Wally Herger.
