1886-1887: Director, State Board of Agriculture
1890: Co-Founder, Union Oil Company of California (Unocal)
1892: U.S. Presidential Elector
1907-1911: Member, Regents of the University of California

 

  • Footnote of History: In 1904, it was US Senator Bard who nominated future General George S. Patton for admission as a cadet at West Point, starting one of the most notable military careers of WWII.
