  • The 1916 Presidential race came down to California, where Governor Hiram Johnson had denied his full support to Hughes (apparently in retaliation for refusing to visit while the two were staying in the same hotel). In the end, California voters favored Wilson by 3,800 votes, and Wilson won reelection.
  • PLACENAME: Charles Evans Hughes Middle School (Home of the "Owls") is located in Long Beach. There also used to be a Charles Evans Hughes Junior High School in Woodland Hills.
