• A month after Strickland's entry into the race for Treasurer-Tax Collector, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted to change the minimum previous experience requirements for the Treasurer-Tax Collector, which included criteria that Strickland did not meet. The vote was 4-1, with Steve Bennett, Linda Parks, Kathy Long, John C. Zaragoza in favor and Peter C. Foy opposed. Strickland released a statement, saying that the amendment was "based on politics and personalities", but Supervisor Kathy Long noted that the criteria adopted by the board had been specified in SB 863 (1995) by Bill Craven.
