- In the 1998 Democratic Primary, Chesbro defeated Timothy Stoen who was previously a member of the People's Temple and attorney for cult leader Jim Jones. Stoen came in 4th of 5 candidates with 16.3%. Stoen later ran as a Republican in the 2004 US Senate Primary and as a Republican in the 2002 Primary for AD-01.
