- John Jr. was an early candidate for SD-05 in 2008 but withdrew in July 2007. John Jr. held a variety of positions within the University of California between 1994 and 2010 including service as Vice Chancellor of UC Merced, and is now a Calaveras County Supervisor (2017-present). John was a 2020 Delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
