- In 1987, Senator David Roberti asked for an investigation in whether Handley had used her position on the Transportation Commission to benefit her company, a northern California road materials company. The State Auditor General investigated the allegations and found "no evidence that Handley used information gained in her position to get the jump on competitors by buying up rock and gravel rights near future Caltrans projects.
