  • IN 1972, Gleason was an attorney for the petitioners in the case of Kennedy v. Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs in which the Church of the Awakening requested judicial review of an order by the Director of the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs rejecting their petition to include the Church within the exemption accorded the Native American Church for the use of peyote in religious services.
