- LEGISLATION: Co-Author of AB1xxxx of 1940, which effectively outlawed the Communist Party in California. The law, in part, stated "No party shall be recognized or qualified to participate in any primary election which uses or adopts as any part of its party designation the word "communist" or any derivative of the word "communist."
- QUOTABLE: "Laws hammered out on an anvil of honest differences of opinion are bound to be more equitable than those dictated by tyrannical authority, and those of us who have had the privilege of forging some of the laws under which we live have gained more than we realize from the experience."
