- Military Service: "Inspired by the woman’s movement to break new barriers, and an article in the Sacramento Bee about woman military pilots, Cathy joined the Air Force and became one of the first woman military pilots in the early 1980s. Cathy was also one of the first woman pilots to fly supportive combat missions when she was deployed in the First Gulf War. As a result of her and her fellow women pilots performance during the First Gulf War, women were subsequently empowered to fly all combat and surveillance aircraft in the US Air Force inventory."
