• During the debate about the adoption of the state seal at the 1849 Constitutional Convention, Wozencraft made a motion to "strike out the figure of the gold digger and the bear and, and introducing instead bags of gold and bales of merchandise." [Debates of the Constitutional Convention, p. 322]
