- CLOSE CONTEST: Bloom narrowly won a spot in the 2012 General election when he defeated Bradley Torgan by 720 votes (1.2%) and Torie Osborn by 792 votes (1.3%).
- LEGISLATION: Author of AB 1222 (Chapt. 527, Stats of 2013), known as the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which reduced pension benefits for newly-hired state employees (as well as employees of local government agencies participating in CalPERS).
