Candidate Biography:

Jim Miller Fitzgerald
Born: ~1953
Married.
Children: Ryan and Connor

  • In 2008, in order to qualify for the November ballot as an independent, Fitzgerald needed to collect 13,533 nominating signatures. Fitzgerald hired 20 workers who collected 21,000 signatures, well above the number required for qualification.

  • As a candidate in the SD-15 Special Election in August 2010, Fitzgerald was the last "Independent" candidate to appear on the ballot in California. With the passage of Proposition 14 (2010) which created an open primary and effectively eliminated party primaries, candidates can now file as "No Party Preference", thus bypassing the need for a candidate to file for office as an Independent by collecting signatures.
