Candidate Biography:

  • OUCH: In 1859, shortly before beginning his Assembly term, Lawrence was "nearly eaten" by a California grizzly bear. He caught it in a trap and, "while waiting for assistance, the bear got loose, gave chase, and run him up a tree, after taking a bite off the seat of his pantaloons."
