Candidate Biography:

John Summerfield Enos
Born: 1825
Married: Susie T.
Child: Gertrude Willis
Died: March 30, 1898 in Sonoma Co., CA

  • LAWSUIT: Enos v. Snyder was a 1900 lawsuit (and court decision) between the mistress (Rachel Jane Snyder) and wife (Susie T. Enos) of Enos over who would get custody of his remains after he died. In his will, Enos left his remains to Snyder (who he had lived with for several years), but his wife and daughter Gertrude sued for custody. Ultimately, the Supreme Court of California found that the family (Enos and Willis) should receive the body.
