Candidate Biography:

Born: September 16, 1822 in Troy, New York
Married: Mary Ann Deming Crocker*
Died: August 14, 1888 in Monterey, CA

1856: Cofounder of the California Republican Party (one of 7)
1861: Became one of four principal investors in the Central Pacific Railroad (with Mark Hopkins, Collis Huntington and Leland Stanford)
1868-1885: President, Southern Pacific Railroad
1888-1897: Member, Regents of the University of California

  • The city of Deming [New Mexico] is named after Mary Crocker
  • Crocker was also the owner and founder of Crocker National Bank. It was a Crocker bank branch in Carmichael that was robbed by the Symbionese Liberation Army including Patty Hearst (great-granddaughter of George Hearst) in 1975. Interestingly, Hearst and Crocker served in the Assembly only five years apart.
  • PLACENAME: Crocker Park is located in Sacramento at 211 O Street.
