  • LEGAL TROUBLES: In 1903, McKelvey was found guilty of mail fraud and bribery in a case stemming from a lawsuit filed by McKelvey on "behalf of a lewd woman when he should have known as an attorney that there could be no true cause of action stated when such a woman is involved; that there is no such thing as assault by consent". McKelvey was fined $2500 and disbarred.
