- EARTHQUAKE: Immediately after the big 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, "Cooper, representative of this county in the state legislature, took a launch on the day of the disturbance for San Francisco. A few miles off shore there were thousands of strange fish floating on the water, none of which were known to old fishermen on the boat. This was in Monterey Bay, where the water is several thousand feet deep."
