- POSTPONED INAUGURATION: At the start of the 2023-2024 legislative session, the State Senate took the unprecedented step of not seating either candidate. On December 8, 2022, following the certification of the results of the 2022 General Election by the counties, Senators Jones and Scott Wilk issued a joint statement requesting the State Senate not seat Senator-elect Melissa Hurtado in the Senate District 16 race "due to concerns over hundreds of ballots that have not been counted". The statement cited "reports also are swirling that there's a handful of uncounted ballots in Kings County still remaining and 600 to 800 uncounted ballots in Tulare County still remaining" and that "[r]ight now, there is no faith that the Kern County vote count is anywhere done nor accurate." Hurtado was sworn into office on December 10th.
- NOTABLE NO VOTE (Legislative Staff Collective Bargaining): Jones was one of 3 State Senators (and 8 legislators overall) who voted against AB 1 (2023) by Tina McKinnor, which allowed California legislative staff to form unions for collective bargaining.
