Jonas Spect

Born: March 21, 1817 in Berks County, Pennsylvania
Married.
Children: Four
Died: July 3, 1883 in Colusa, CA

1848: Started mining at a site on Yuba river later known as Spect's Camp
1849: Helped to draft the first mining laws in California
1849: Senate seat was successfully contested and declared vacant on December 24.
1849: Elected as a Delegate to the 1849 Constitutional Convention (did not attend)

• Spect settled the town of Fremont Landing in 1849. In 1850, Fremont Landing was the seat of Yolo County. Then a series of floods caused people to move away until, in 1851, the town disbanded. The last family left around 1864.
