Died: November 12, 1880 in San Francisco, CA

1868-18??: Member, California State Harbor Commission

  • OUCH: Baird is best remembered for being the owner of the California Powder Works, a gunpowder manufacturer incorporated in the San Lorenzo Valley in 1861. In April 1898, a massive explosion destroyed a large part of the factory, killing 11 workers and causing $75,000 in damage.
