Candidate Biography:
Born: October 13, 1839 in Ohio
Died: July 24, 1924 in Orange County, CA
- Mental Illness: In 1908, Peterson was "suffering from an insane delusion that he is becoming a bankrupt, which weighs on him a great deal. He often remarked that he wished he would die. He is one of the wealthiest men of [Modoc] county, having great possessions of land, cattle, and horses." He shot himself in the head with a rifle, tearing his scalp but not killing him.
