Dr. Henry Nichols, M.D.
Born: September 11, 1823 in Augusta, Maine
Married: Sarah Evans Cole (in 1847)
Children: Arthur Lambard Nichols, Harry E. Nichols, Sarah Nichols, Lucy R. Nichols, Anna H. Nichols  and Harry E. Nichols
Family: Son of Asaph R. Nichols (Maine Secretary of State, 1835-1837)
Died: February 16, 1915

1856: Mayor, City of Sacramento
1871-1874: Trustee, California State Library

  • It was Nichols who, as Secretary of State, climbed on top of the cupola (at the top of the dome) of the State Capitol and attached the golden-plated sphere (it was made with melted-down gold coins over copper).
  • Be Fruitful and Multiply: Nichols had six children.
