- PLACENAME: Montgomery Creek (in Shasta County) is named for Montgomery.
- In 1850, Motgomery served as attorney for Charles L. Robinson in the trial for Sacramento Mayor Hardin Bigelow's murder during the Squatter's Riot .
- In 1890, Montgomery served as attorney for San Joaquin County Sheriff Cunningham in the U.S. Supreme Court case "In re David Neagle" related to Neagle's killing of David S. Terry in defense of Stephen J. Field.
